Phnom Penh, June 26, 2024 – On the morning of June 26, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet, also serving as the First Vice President of the Cambodian Veterans Association, presided over the 17th anniversary celebrations of Cambodian Veterans Day.

During his address, Prime Minister Hun Manet underscored June 21 as a significant historical day, celebrating the 17th anniversary of Cambodian Veterans Day. This day honors the sacrifices of the Kingdom's valiant warriors and citizens who have contributed to the protection of Cambodia’s sovereignty, peace, and social stability.

The Prime Minister recognized the efforts of Senior Minister Kun Kim in supporting the Cambodian Veterans Association and highlighted the essential role of veterans in the nation's history. He remembered the dark times under the Pol Pot regime and the subsequent liberation that saved many lives, emphasizing that these events led to the re-establishment of rights and freedoms in Cambodian society.

The celebration serves to remember the patriotic sacrifices made at all stages of Cambodia’s history, which have been instrumental in building peace and ensuring ongoing economic and social development. Hun Manet articulated that since the liberation day on January 7, 1979, the government has actively worked to enhance veterans' welfare and improve their standard of living.

The government's commitment to integrating veterans into the new social security system, ensuring systematic updates and management through information technology systems.

The commitment to maintaining healthcare support for veterans and their families through health cards and health equity fund vouchers.

The ongoing efforts to ensure that veterans' contributions are honored and their living standards continually improved through various governmental initiatives.

Hun Manet also directed ministries to prioritize veterans' welfare and ensure their inclusion in national development plans. He stressed the importance of giving opportunities to veterans' children in national defense and public administration roles.

As the ceremony concluded, Hun Manet thanked all benefactors and supporters of the Veterans Association and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting veterans. He called on provincial governors to aid in building association headquarters where needed and to encourage local philanthropic movements to support veterans' welfare.

This day not only commemorates the valor and sacrifice of Cambodia's veterans but also reaffirms the nation's resolve to honor and support them continually.
